Anky

Help

How to reach us, and the answers to the things people ask most. One person reads every message.

Email help@ankycar.com. That address goes to a person, not a queue, and a person answers it. Tell us your account email and, if it is about a particular car, roughly which one — that is usually enough to sort it in one reply.

01Getting in touch

help@ankycar.com is the way. There is no phone line and no chat widget, because there is one person here and an inbox he actually reads beats a queue he does not.

You can also reach the same address from inside the app: Profile → Help.

02What Anky is

Anky is a used-car marketplace for the United Kingdom. You swipe through cars, it learns what you like, and it puts the ones that suit you first. Sellers pay a flat £30 to list — free if the asking price is under £1,500 — and nothing after that.

Nobody can pay to appear higher up. There is no promoted placement and no advertising on Anky, and there is not going to be. What decides the order of your deck is what you have swiped, your filters and how far away the car is.

⚠️ Anky is not a party to any sale. When a car changes hands the contract is between the buyer and the seller. We do not hold money, we do not inspect cars, and we do not verify that a seller owns what they are advertising. The Terms of Use set that out properly.

03Selling a car

What it costs

£30 flat, whatever the car is worth. Free under £1,500. No commission, no renewal, no success fee, and the advert stays up until the car sells or you take it down.

Listing from a number plate

Type the registration and Anky fills in the make, model, year, colour and engine from the DVSA's MOT record, and shows the MOT history to buyers. That record is the DVSA's, not ours — if something in it is wrong, it is wrong at the test centre and we cannot correct it. Say so in your description and buyers will see both.

Lookups are limited to thirty an hour per account, which is far more than listing a car needs and tight enough that the feature cannot be used to trawl the plate space.

If you sell cars for a living

You must say so. The law requires a trade seller to make that clear, and buying from a trader gives your buyer rights that buying privately does not. If you are selling more than a handful a year, email us rather than listing privately.

04Buying a car

Messaging a seller and making an offer are free. An accepted offer reserves the car for a short while so other buyers know where they stand — it does not oblige either of you to go through with it.

Meet somewhere public, in daylight, and take somebody with you. See the V5C logbook and check it matches the car and the person selling it. Consider a paid history check and a professional inspection. Never send money for a car you have not seen.

⚠️ Nobody at Anky will ever ask you to pay a deposit through us. We have no way to take a payment for a car and never will. Any message telling you otherwise is a fraud — report it, and tell us.

05Reporting and blocking

Reporting

Every advert has "Something wrong with this advert?" at the bottom, and every conversation has a flag in its header. Both open the same short form: pick a reason, add anything you want to say, send. Nobody is told you sent it.

We read every one.

Blocking

The same sheet offers Block when there is a person on the other end of it. Blocking is immediate and it is not announced. Their cars leave your deck, any conversation you have leaves your inbox, and neither of you can start another. You can undo it from Profile → Blocked.

Blocking is not the same as reporting. Blocking stops you hearing from somebody; reporting tells us about them. If somebody has behaved badly, please do both.

06Your account and your data

Deleting your account

Profile → Account → Delete my account. It works immediately and you do not have to ask us.

⚠️ It takes more with it than your own account: your listings go, and so does every conversation you are part of — which means those conversations leave the other person's inbox too, because a conversation is one record shared between two people. It cannot be undone.

Starting again without deleting

Profile → Reset my swipes clears your swipe history and everything Anky has learned about what you like, and keeps your account, your listings and your messages.

A copy of your data

Email us and we will send it within a month, free. The Privacy Policy lists everything we hold and why.

07When something is wrong

A refund

If we removed your listing in error, or it never ran because something broke, email us and we will refund it. If you take a listing down yourself after it has gone live, the fee is not refundable — section 6 of the terms explains why.

A complaint

Email help@ankycar.com and say what happened. We would rather hear it than not. If it is about how we have handled your personal data and you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.

The app is broken

Tell us what you were doing, what happened, and which phone you are on. Anky does not collect crash reports, so a message from you is genuinely the only way we find out.
